Just a little doodle for someone I met online. 🙂

In 2002, a lil’ lonely, artist-writer guy (me) was moping around wondering if he’d ever find a nice girl. It was hard enough for shy ol’ me to meet ANY girl, let alone Ms. Right.  Once on The Sopranos, the character Bobby Bacala once said, “Shyness is a curse!” For those of you who are shy, you know just how true that statement is. Because of that shyness, and even though many really cute girls thought I was “cute” and “handsome” I was too shy to ever do anything about it, and I only had a couple of girlfriends through my teens and twenties due to that curse.

Well, the internet was the greatest thing ever for shy guys like myself. Most of you young shy guys have no idea how much easier it is to break the ice with someone you think is hot when we aren’t ‘on the spot’ and embarrassed or heartbroken if rejected or what not, which internet chats can do. Well, in 2002, I met a Thai girl online of all things, and we struck up a relationship that quickly because more than friendship, and chatted every night (day there). Shyness out of the way, everything clicked. In 2004 I travelled to Thailand to meet her (which, if you take a globe, it is directly in the opposite side of the planet from where I was born and live!), confirmed what we already knew via chats, then we applied for a fiancee visa and were married in 2005. Then, in 2010 we had an opportunity to join small business together working for a branch of a sushi franchise in our local grocery market, where I learned to cope more with my shyness. I’m still a little bit, but much better than I used to be, as my wife (and her wonderful family & friends) brought me out of my shell a bit. And in 2014, we had our 1st child – beautiful Miss Faith Marie.

All started with an online chat pal on the other side of the world and a drawing.

Funny how things work out, isn’t it? 🙂
