As a small child, Chris Stevens dreamed of being a cartoonist/artist/writer/animator. He drew and wrote comics and worked his entire childhood, teenage years, and early adulthood towards that goal. Not gaining any notoriety, success, or being paid for the work, he had to find other ways to make money, especially after meeting the woman of his dreams (on the other side of the world via the internet), flying to meet her, applying for a 90-Day Fiancée Visa, getting married. In the mid-2000s, with help from his wife who had website creation programs, Chris created a couple of websites on his own time and money to showcase his art — which included not only drawing hundreds and hundreds of comics, but also scanning, digitizing, remastering, and often coloring them, and then uploading and paying for the domain name and (pricier and pricier) hosting. His hope was to get his comics out there and maybe get noticed for publication or commissioned to do more work.

But alas, the traffic is mostly… hackers and spambots, with zero money made. This means that he couldn’t continue to produce free comics for the site, so he had to get a day job. That he and his wife did, as they started a quaint, but financially stable, small business, which enabled them to afford to have kids.

So while the sites don’t update daily because he’s busy with paid work and family time, so doesn’t add to it very often, but it’s there for the world to see along with the occasional update when he finds the inspiration and time.

But it’s under attack. Virtually NON-STOP.

Hackers, who are no more and no less cowardly punks and criminals who hide behind computers from the safety of their homes, parent basements, low-rent apartments, shit holes, wherever they abide. They attack websites in order to find ways to steal money, and reroute to spam and sometimes nefarious sites via viruses, malware, and some other hackery. They find holes and inject viruses, and malware, and corrupt the sites. Sometimes, they don’t even do it to make money, they do it out of spite, hate, and carelessness. They cause millions, billions, trillions in damages. And most of the victims are small and middle-class small businesses. Kind of like Chris’. Which is just me.

You know what an amazing fact is? For every actual human viewer to this website, it is outnumbered possibly 1,000-to-1 by bad bots and hackers. It requires time and energy (that he doesn’t have with a job and kids) to combat them and restore the website when they shut it down with corrupt and infected code.

So you may ask… why? Why bother? Especially when it hasn’t made money [all the while seeing artists, cartoonists, writers, and animators (with sometimes less talent and/or absolutely horrid character) make millions and gain fame, while his not making anything (and pay through his wallet just to host the site, which was adding insult to injury],

Because that little kid just wanted to draw comics and make stories. And won’t stop just because some spammer wants to hijack his sites to sell spams and scams or just some snot-nosed cuck hacker wants to f*** with him. By him, I mean me. I’m Chris writing in an odd mix of first, second and third person. Ugh…. Stop doing that, Chris.

So… anyways… I’ll keep the sites up — but sadly, I wind up spending more time and money fighting hackers and scammers than actually producing new content.

Oh, well. But at least the content is up, and with some faith, hope, and a few prayers… maybe get noticed and pays off for me and my family someday.

Edit: Since I wrote this, the page has been under constant attack by spammers and hackers, and was corrupted more than once. Alas, I keep doing my best to find spare time and cash to keep my site up and add a comic or two (even just coloring an old one from time to time).
